Upper level E skiers outcome will be to make short radius parallel turns in the fall line, medium and long radius carved turns across the fall line. The terrain will include a wide variety of trail and conditions, including groomed single black diamond runs.Learning to ski all blue runs.Parallel turns with pole touch.Improved performance in bumps and varying snow conditions.Continued progressions on carving medium and long radius turns.Short radius turns on steeper terrain for speed control.Movement cues:Balance – Broaden range of comfort: fore/aft and laterally.Flexing and extending movements – Earlier weight transfer with smooth transitions. Enhance the range of motion with flexing and extending movements, of the ankles, knees, and hips while skiing varying terrain.Turning the feet and legs – Improved guidance and steering of skis by turning the feet, ankles, and legs independent of the torso.Tipping the feet and legs – Increase angulation throughout the turn. Use feet, ankles, legs and hips to tip skis on edge. Both ankles work in unison, tipping to engage and release both edges.Sample Progression: Flexing and Extending MovementsThe E skier generally wants lots of ski time in their lessons, keep them moving and don’t overwhelm them with all your knowledge. Often they will be lacking sufficient flexing and extending movements to be efficient on varying terrain or for dynamic carved turns on groomed runs. After warm up run introduce and/or develop skating.Skating develops more active weight transfer and independent leg movements. Strong edge control helps to anchor the flexion and extension.Use poles to push, if guest have trouble pushing with the poles have them keep the pole nice and quiet in front of the torso.Leapers. Use leapers first on the groomed, and then revisit later in varying terrain to aid in initiation.Pivot slips – extension to release edges, flexion as skis are guided across the hill while slipping down the fall line.Ski a run with a focus on flexion and extension.Next run introduce pedal turns, progress to high-speed wedge turns on groomed run. Let your guest know that the shape of the ski and the edge angle combined with flexing and extending movements allows us to guide the ski easier.Take into varying terrain to continually develop flexing and extending movements.Other Progressions: Pole Plants, Short Turns, Powder, Bumps, Crud, Shape Ski Lesson
