It is important to develop retraction / extension movement patterns, and to develop the balance and control to ski both powder and crud. BIO MECHANICAL FOCUS Balance Maintain balance by anticipating changes in snow texture, terrain, etc. .. Offensive, dynamic movements Balance through momentum. Flexing and Extending Movements. Ability to vary pressure to stay in balance.Pressure control movements will vary from equal weight to outside ski dominant. Turning Feet and Legs Progressive two footed steering, more than foot to foot. Sample Progression: Shallow turns in the gravity zone to develop smooth steering at initiation with a deliberate pole swing for turning and body commitment. While traversing, push down on both feet to create platform, then retract.Continue bouncing motion and add a pole plant at turn initiation, continue bouncing through the turn.Reduce the bounce to just the turn initiation.Once turns are being linked do a fig "8" contest Analyze tracks. Skiing FocusInitiation is the main focus -work towards rounder turns.Go from defensive to offensive mode.At the finishing phase of the turn learn how to absorb energy by retracting legs then extend as you steer into a new turn.Maintain enough speed to allow skis to move towards surface, where they are easier to steer / control.Reading snow conditions, light / heavy, deep / shallow, etc...
